A pioneer of cultural patronage
The corporate foundation
In October 2009, twelve business leaders working or living in Auvergne set up a corporate foundation dedicated to the restoration of Villemont, authorised by prefectoral decree of 29 October 2009 for five years. It was a first in France since the 2003 Aillagon law: a historic monument supported by a foundation created specifically around its restoration project. Its remarkable effectiveness led to its renewal by decree of 27 June 2017, for 2017-2021.
The foundation funded two full-time jobs — a journeyman mason and a stonecutter — and supported the works for fifteen years. It can no longer be renewed in this form; patronage continues today, open to all, through the earmarked donations collected by La Demeure Historique.
